Hello
(none)@(none)!
Your access to this page is number:
I don't update these pages properly / that often so please accept the state they are in (as they are largely unchanged from my University web pages I do have a new website in the pipeline but these things take time as you probably appreciate...
Anyway, enough of the technicalities and on with:
A bit about me..
Orac? was one of the computers in the popular BBC series
"Blake's 7". If you haven't already guessed, I'm a very big fan! Orac is also the name of one of my computers named after Blake's 7's Orac. When you think about it - Orac was connected to his own "Internet" in the Blake's 7 world. Here's a link to Horizon, the Blake's 7 Appreciation Society.
1998 was the 20th Anniversary of Blake's 7 (the first episode was broadcast on 2nd January 1978) and also saw the first new Blake's 7 episode for 20 years. The Sevenfold Crown was broadcast on Radio 4 on Saturday 17th January 1998 and is also available on cassette.
2004 sees Blake's 7 available on DVD for the first time. It was released on March 1st 2004! - Get your copy HERE!
Of course, when choosing an IRC nick, "Orac" was the sensible choice. (And on the talkers like Surfers, Foothills, Mono etc that I used to use at University before I "discovered" IRC at Demon). You can find me on #dl-bar on IRCnet.

What do I do?
plc (originally Demon Internet) in Finchley, London, UK since 1995.My current role is Senior Software and System Engineer working in Billing Systems Development.
In 2007 I worked with Intec developing some of the CGDC scripts for THUS' Mediation System running on Intec's Inter-mediatE and on Oracle BRM (Portal) software customisations.
I have gained a lot of experience with Internet Email (through work and play) I cannot escape the fact that it's one of my strong skills so a lot of email type projects used to come my way. I'm a long time user of the Exim software and I'm a Mirapoint Certified Engineer / Mirapoint Certified Directory Engineer having used and deployed these Mail Appliances since 1999 in various projects.
Email aside, in recent years I've worked on a number of projects, large and small, over the last few of years notably backends for Amstrad E-Mailer Plus and E3 Video Phone including their CopyMail system, the new platform for beeb.net, Demon ADSL welcome pack fulfillment middleware, even a bit of HTML branding and lots and lots of bug fixing and good old fashioned stats reporting!
For the previous 18 months I was "Team Leader, Mail & News Services" and then seconded as a Senior Developer to Core Services Development for a few months having been a Systems Administrator and then a Senior Systems Administrator since May 1998.
Before that I worked for almost 2 years as an Internal Systems Technician and a Deputy Shift Manager (briefly, at the same time as Internal Systems until that bit of the role got so large) in Demon's Call Centre in Southend-on-Sea having previously worked on Demon's Helpdesk in Finchley before we moved to other premises in Southend-on-Sea in mid-1996.
Before I worked for Demon I worked for
as a Checkout Manager. I was there for 6 years in all
including while I was
a student at
Aston University where I
graduated in July 1995 with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Computing Science.
Okay, so you know all about me now. Here are the links to other interesting (or not) bits and pieces.
